So, yesterday I was surfing the interwebs when I found an absolute gem…
I stumbled across one of the coolest websites I have come across on the entire internet.
It’s so stupid it’s an absolute genius idea… (I wish I had of thought of it)
The only way I can describe it, is that it’s a well-placed curiosity trap.
That literally makes money out of thin air by essentially selling nothing at all.
Money for nothing… (Can’t help myself I have to play the song, enjoy the soundtrack)
Ok, that doesn’t tell you too much either…
Let me try again…
The website consists of a one sentence question and a paypal button.
The question is…
“How Many People Paid A Dollar To See How Many People Paid A Dollar”
Yep, that’s it.
People just pay to see how many other people got suckered into paying too.
I warned you, it was stupid.
But, it’s also a fascinating experiment that has powerful lessons you can use to profit from, more on that in a moment…
So how much money has this stupid website made?
Here is what the owner of the website said in a recent interview.
“Sometimes it’s quiet with no payments for a week or so, and then it gets shared somewhere on social media and goes boom!”
I have no idea how many people have paid, I am not silly enough to give it my money however a journalist did. Here is what they had to report…
“I won’t tell you the number so as not to spoil the experience, but it is more than anyone has any right to make off of a website running one line of text and a PayPal link.”
My guess, it is probably in the 10’s of 1000’s but could be a lot more.
So why I am telling you about this?
Well besides the pure genius of getting money for nothing and its entrainment value, there are a lot of things you can learn from this experiment.
Firstly, money is everywhere!
You just need to get more resourceful and creative with your approach.
Problem most people have, is they quit before they even begin.
A lesson I learned many years ago when I first read the book Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyoski, when you tell yourself… ‘I can’t afford that’ or ‘I can’t do that’ you shut your mind off completely, from even looking for a possible answer.
However if you change the words you ask yourself to a how question, like ‘how can I afford this?’ or ‘how can I do something like this?’ your mind goes to work to seek out an answer.
The better questions you ask it, the better the answers it will provide.
There are so many simple ideas like this that you can do to make money online, you just need to get creative and start taking action.
Johan McCubbin, the creator of www.howmanypeoplepaidadollartoseehowmanypeoplepaidadollar.com/ said he was inspired by the infamous Million Dollar Homepage from 2005, where 1 million pixels were sold for a $1 each.
The other profitable lessons you can learn from this experiment is the power of copywriting and the use of curiosity in your marketing.
It’s said that curiosity is what killed the cat.
Well in this case, curiosity is what collects the money.
The entire premise of the website is to release the curiosity chemicals and from what the journals reports, it is doing pretty well.
I just visited the website while writing this article and it is currently down for maintenance. Maybe it is getting an upgrade
What is your thoughts on this? Do you think it is a genius idea or stupid and unethical? And let me know how much you think the website has made?
My goal is simple: To help you achieve personal freedom and financial prosperity using the power of internet marketing.
